Welcome to Ceramic Atelier Oost,
a bright and quiet studio in Amsterdam where I host ceramic courses, day workshops, private events and open atelier days. Perfect for beginners who want to explore the craft, or those who want to work on their own ceramic project(s): all levels are welcome.
In Atelier Oost we work with the hands and make use of the oldest, most fundamental techniques in ceramics. The handbuilding courses are given in small groups (max 7) to ensure personal one-on-one instructions. Every class (18:00) starts with warm soup and bread, to ground a bit. During the course you will explore different sculpting, glazing and engobe techniques.
When you have participated in a five-week course you can attend open atelier days whenever you wish to. During open atelier you can proceed you ceramic work independently, of course I will still be there for questions and guidance.
If you would just like to experience it once, you can also book a day workshop.

About me
I am interested in a deeper philosophical approach to ceramics.
With a background in Music and Visual arts I discovered the world of ceramics in 2020, when I met my mentor: Det Smeets. Her approach to ceramics is that of a ‘saunterer’, a term that evokes someone who moves slowly and deliberately through a forest, wandering without a fixed destination, observing and reflecting along the way rather than rushing towards a goal. This way of working became a seed for my approach to ceramics.
Opening Atelier Oost
In 2023 I got the chance to open ‘Atelier Oost’. Clay has taught me a lot about patience, that good things take time, like personal growth. The material has it’s own character, you can’t force it, so collaboration is needed. Working with the hand pulls me into the present moment and helps me to calm my mind in a reflective way. The community, the creative explorations and conversations that emerge in the atelier show me that ceramics is a true craft to connect with and through.
